LOBSTER MORPHOLOGY:

Ø Cephalon/Head(6p)+ Thorax (8p) 14 appendages

Ø Abdomen -6 pairs of appendages

Ø Lobster has 20 appendages or somites. 

Ø    Somite l-ophthalmic somite

Ø    Carries the eye, movable with the help of stalk.

Ø    Semite 2 Antennular somite

Ø    Somite 4-9 [Last a head somite + st 3 thorax somite

Function

ANTENNULE:

Very short sensory organ with fine hairs-Olfactory function.

-Long sensory organ having tactile function

CLAW-

terminal end of 1st three pairs of legs-prehensile, defensive

CARAPACE

Hard covering produced by folds of tissues from the back segments of the head; it protects the body of the Lobster.

 

ABDOMEN

Posterior portion of the body formed of 6 segments and bearing the pleopods; appendages used for swimming, circulating water over gills and holding the eggs

THORACIC LEGS

Limbs attached to cephalothorax having a prehensile and motor function. The st 3 legs bear pincers while last 2 beaut daws.

 

TELSON & UROPOD-Telson located at end of body while cropod has 2 lobes helps in swimming.
